W.C. East rolls to a win over Radnor

Five players have two goals each

WEST GOSHEN >> The West Chester East girls ice hockey team couldn’t have asked for a more balanced game than Thursday night’s tilt against Radnor.

In the 11-3 win, five of East’s players scored two goals apiece and eight of the 10 players had at least a point in the game, including goalie Danielle Latare.

“We have been working on just getting ready for the playoffs – getting everyone moving the puck well and trying to dial in our passing,” said head coach Lauren Koller. “It really worked out. We’ve been able to see better puck movement and girls are really working the point and crashing the net, so we’re seeing a lot of rebounds and a lot of different contributors.”

East (9-4-1) jumped out to a three-goal lead in the first period, but Radnor’s (3-6-3) Lindsey Coffey drew her team to within one before East broke away in the second period, tacking on another three goals to Radnor’s one.

five goals in the third to put the game out of reach while Latare didn’t allow anything else past her.

In fact, it was just another big game for the senior goaltender, who has played in all but one game for her team and has a 9-3-1 record with a 3.38 goalsagainst average and four shutouts.

“(Latare) is doing really,” Koller said. “It’s only her second year as a goaltender and second year on the ice at all. She’s still pretty focused. It’s tough being a senior and looking into the next direction and next step, but she’s going a really nice job staying focused for the team and in net.”

Latare has made such an impact in her short time on the team that she was even named captain this season.

“She has done an awesome job stepping up into a leadership role and being part of the team — getting accepted with everyone and fitting in,” Koller said. “She’s taking things to the next level.”

East has been rolling this season despite having an odd schedule this year. The Vikings currently sit fourth in the Girls Varsity division with the playoffs quickly approaching.

“It has been a bit of a weird season,” Koller said. “We had a lot of games up front, then we had a big four or five weeks off and then a couple games and then more weeks off again. We’re trying to stay motivated and focused because it is a challenge with the season being so broken up. Obviously tonight we did pretty well, so we’re excited to continue with that momentum. Everything’s looking good so far.”
