Bomb threat reported at CCIU Learning Center
Fake ‘bomb’ made of electrical tape and paper found in building
CALN>> A bomb threat at the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Learning Center on Thursday morning resulted in students and faculty evacuating the building and police investigating the scene.
Caln Township Police officers responded to the bomb threat at the Learning Center, which is located at 1635 East Lincoln Highway, across the street from Coatesville Area Senior High, around 11:02 a.m.
The initial information received from the school indicated a suspicious message had been discovered written in a restroom, police said. A suspicious item was also found in the same restroom by school staff; school administrators deemed the message to be a threat of a bomb in the school and began evacuation procedures, police said.
Caln Township Police officers arrived and secured the scene. Bomb detection K-9 units from the West Caln Police Department and Chester County Sheriff’s Office were requested to perform a search of the building. No explosives were located and the sus- picious object was determined to be a ball of electrical tape, with a twisted piece of paper to resemble a small “bomb” complete with a fuse, police said.
A person of interest was developed and was being interviewed by Caln Township Police Detectives on Thursday afternoon; the person of interest is a juvenile student at the Learning Center, police said.
School administrators deemed the Learning Cen- ter clear around 1 p.m. and reopened the building for classes after that.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Caln Township Police Department at 610-383-1821.
