Walter E. Hoover Jr. of West Brandywine
Walter E. Hoover, Jr., 91, of West Brandywine, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Freedom Village at Brandywine.
He was the beloved husband of Jean E. Sooy Hoover, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Walter E., Sr. and Lucille Innes Hoover.
Walter proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II, and was injured during the war, receiving the Purple Heart along with two Bronze Star commendations.
A graduate of Drexel University, he was employed by Robert F. Harsch and Associates civil engineering firm in West Chester for 16 years.
Mr. Hoover was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester; and with his love of singing, was a dedicated member of the church choir. In his spare time, he enjoyed model railroading and sailing. Above all things, he was very proud of his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Timothy (Andrea) and Peter (Beth) Hoover; grandchildren, Theresa Ducassoux (Mike), Jennifer Brady (Paul), Kelly Murphy (Ryan), Katie Koons (Matt), Chris Hoover and Jaclyn Hoover; and by great-grandchildren, Lucas Brady and Madison Koons. He was predeceased by his brother, Milton Hoover and sister-in-law, Margaret Hoover.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, April 14, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W. Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382, where family and friends may visit from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. Internment will be private.
