“This morning we again spoke with our students in their classrooms about the extreme importance of a peaceful, healthy educational environment, following our code of conduct, and reporting to the area as designated on their schedule,” Chenger said. “We reiterated that fighting of any kind will not be tolerated. There is no place for hate, violence or disruption in our schools.”

In addition to Chenger’s letter to parents, school district Superintendent Cathy Taschner addressed this issue. In her letter to parents Thursday, Taschner also referenced the recent report by a TV news outlet that reported on the allegations of excessive fighting at Coatesville’s

9-10 Center and high school. She expressed disappointment in the news report she described as “months old.”

A Coatesville resident emailed the Daily Local News late Tuesday night with several video clips of students fighting, which were the same video clips shown in the TV news report Wednesday. The videos in the TV news report were referred to in district officials’ letters to parents.

School district officials said that the fights occurred months ago. The Daily Local reported several fights in November 2015, followed by parents urging for increased security.

“Contrary to what was reported fights are not daily realities in our buildings,”
