Malvern cruises to PAISAA semifinals
Shane Muntz threw a four-hitter over five innings as Malvern Prep thumped Germantown Academy, 7-3, in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association baseball tournament Thursday.
The Friars (27-5) will met Mercersburg in the semifinals on Saturday at Perkiomen School.
Muntz struck out seven for Malvern. Jake Mullan was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Matt Dallar had a solo home run, and two RBIs.
Chad Cobb pitched five scoreless innings to lead Victory Brewing (4-1) to the Coatesville Adult Baseball League victory. Cobb allowed seven hits and five strikeouts. Matt Engesser belted a bases-loaded double to highlight a four-run fifth inning. Mike Ghast. Pete Williams and Jim Yester had RBIs for Fred Beans during a fiverun eighth inning.
Handyworkx knocked off Goshen Beverage, 20-11, as Dale Hood, Charlie Harvey and Fred Waldbusser led the way with four hits each. Rob Wolf and Dirk Edmiston added three hits.
Life Smoke Vapors.com won its sixth consecutive game, 19-12, over Boss Automotive. Fred Bobb and Barry Devine led Life Smoke with four hits each, while Chris Sclafani added three hits in support of winning pitcher Lynn Curry. Dennis Morgan clubbed a three-run homer for Boss Automotive.
The Ron Porter Browns rapped out 20 hits in both games en route to a doubleheader sweep over Spaz Beverage, 10-9, and 143. Russ DiMaria and Ric Frindt both went a combined 6-for-6 for the day. Ernie Devlin added five hits for winning pitchers Bruce Barton and Tom Hamilton.
Bruce Allred and Jim Nee had three hits each to back winning pitcher Lynn Curry as the Keystone Volvo Hershey Millers downed Pride and Joy, 104. Curry, Bob Dunn and Bill Isakson had two hits each.
Sloan Ford edged the Patriots, 19-18. Phil Anders, Frank McCue and Pete Perez recorded RBI doubles. Don Burhans was the winning pitcher. Colt Heppe tripled for the Patriots.
