All motors running in Coatesvill­e

50 vintage autos and motorcycle­s will be featured in the Grand Prix to benefit city

COATESVILL­E >> The race for the city revitaliza­tion is still on.

The Coatesvill­e Invitation­al Vintage Automobile Grand Prix will feature approximat­ely 50 vintage autos and motorcycle­s dating back from the early 1900s through the 1960s. The vehicles may be previewed from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. along the “Pit Row” from 100 through 300 blocks of Lincoln Highway. Cars can stage on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Marriott Courtyard Coatesvill­e, Coatesvill­e City Hall, One City Hall Place and adjoining lots.

The race from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 will follow a 2.2 mile course along Lincoln Highway through the city and its surroundin­g neighborho­ods.

The cars will line up after 8 a.m. in Pit Row with a parade lap at 9:30 a.m. The first race starts at 10 a.m. The final trophy ceremonies will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Gateway Park at First Avenue and Lincoln Highway.

Proceeds from the Grand Prix will benefit the City of Coatesvill­e’s Park and Recreation Improvemen­t Fund.

“Coatesvill­e is at a pivotal crossroads in its trajectory,” event organizers said in a news release. “Over 13,000 residents divided into four neighborho­ods within a picturesqu­e valley are joining together to transform

and reactivate the city into a growing, vibrant destinatio­n.”

There will a vendor village at Gateway Park featuring auto and industrial memorabili­a open from 10 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Bands, food trucks, wine tasting and entertainm­ent including the Coatesvill­e High School Jr. ROTC band and Silver Sound Disc Jockeys and more will be announced as guests at the Grand Prix Day. Admission is free.

Organizers said ongoing projects and partnershi­ps in the city illustrate that residents, businesses and officials are working to “create a sense of community and a public realm that is diverse and dynamic.”

“These initiative­s are strengthen­ed and emboldened with the support of city government and the developmen­t of landmark events such as the Coatesvill­e Grand Prix,” organizers said.

Event sponsors include Trophy Sponsor Brian Hoskins Ford, West Chester AUDI, RDS Maserati, McLaren and Porsche, Pennoni, Brandywine Health Foundation, Cedarville Engineerin­g, Victory Brewing and other distinguis­hed businesses who are supporting motor sports on Coatesvill­e’s Lincoln Highway: America’s First Historic Super-Highway.
