All motors running in Coatesville
50 vintage autos and motorcycles will be featured in the Grand Prix to benefit city
COATESVILLE >> The race for the city revitalization is still on.
The Coatesville Invitational Vintage Automobile Grand Prix will feature approximately 50 vintage autos and motorcycles dating back from the early 1900s through the 1960s. The vehicles may be previewed from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. along the “Pit Row” from 100 through 300 blocks of Lincoln Highway. Cars can stage on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Marriott Courtyard Coatesville, Coatesville City Hall, One City Hall Place and adjoining lots.
The race from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 will follow a 2.2 mile course along Lincoln Highway through the city and its surrounding neighborhoods.
The cars will line up after 8 a.m. in Pit Row with a parade lap at 9:30 a.m. The first race starts at 10 a.m. The final trophy ceremonies will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Gateway Park at First Avenue and Lincoln Highway.
Proceeds from the Grand Prix will benefit the City of Coatesville’s Park and Recreation Improvement Fund.
“Coatesville is at a pivotal crossroads in its trajectory,” event organizers said in a news release. “Over 13,000 residents divided into four neighborhoods within a picturesque valley are joining together to transform
and reactivate the city into a growing, vibrant destination.”
There will a vendor village at Gateway Park featuring auto and industrial memorabilia open from 10 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Bands, food trucks, wine tasting and entertainment including the Coatesville High School Jr. ROTC band and Silver Sound Disc Jockeys and more will be announced as guests at the Grand Prix Day. Admission is free.
Organizers said ongoing projects and partnerships in the city illustrate that residents, businesses and officials are working to “create a sense of community and a public realm that is diverse and dynamic.”
“These initiatives are strengthened and emboldened with the support of city government and the development of landmark events such as the Coatesville Grand Prix,” organizers said.
