Wilma Shalles Bunker, 90, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Sunrise Senior Living in Exton.

She was the devoted wife of the late John W. Bunker, Sr., with whom she shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in Hazelton, PA, in 1926, Wilma grew up in Bryn Mawr where she graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1944. She followed her passion and attended Bryn Mawr School of Nursing, graduating in 1947. After working at Bryn Mawr Hospital, she moved on to the Children’s Hospital in Washington, D. C., where she received her postgradua­te degree in Nursing. Wilma nursed in Girl Scout camps, served in public health, and then moved on to Chester County Hospital pediatrics. She later became the Assistant Director of Nursing at the Friends Hall Nursing Home in West Chester.

Wilma’s favorite passion was singing in her school and church choirs. She began in high school and joined choirs in several churches. She loved bridge, volunteeri­ng at the Coatesvill­e Veteran’s Hospital, and being a member of her local “Red Hats”.

Wilma was extremely proud of her heritage which led her to become a longtime member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Chester County. She served as their Registrar for several years.

Wilma was a loving and devoted mother to her children, Deborah and John, Jr. and his wife, Mary Beth. She had five grandchild­ren, Michael, Bobby, Bryan and his wife, Anna, Courtney and Melissa, along with two great-grandchild­ren, Jaiden and Chelsea.

A celebratio­n of Wilma’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 23, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 East Lancaster Ave, Downingtow­n, where family and friends may call from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributi­ons be sent to Aseracare, 411 Eagleview Blvd., Ste. 114, Exton, PA 19341, for their devotion and kindness to their mom.
