Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation will present annual awards for distinguished alumni and community service
SOUTH COVENTRY >> The Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation will be honoring new inductees to their Wall of Fame.
On Friday, the Owen J. Roberts Education Foundation will present annual awards for distinguished alumni and community service. This year’s distinguished alumni award will be given to U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello, R-6, of West Goshen. The award is given to an Owen J. Roberts High School graduate who enhances the quality of life by preserving, promoting and carrying out positive and quantifiable traditional values and traits.
According to Owen J. Roberts School District, Costello will receive the award for his distinguished political career. Early on, Costello ran for membership on the East Vincent Board of Supervisors and made a goal of visiting each person in the township. Costello also served on the Chester County Board of Commissioners. Before running for Congress, he also had an extensive volunteer resume serving on many boards and volunteering for organizations to better the community. He also frequently visits the school to help students understand government and their role in being informed citizens. Costello is running for re-election this November against Willistown Democrat Mike Parrish.
Community service awards will also be given to three recipients on Friday. The awards will be given to three residents, Carol
Gilligan, Kathy Storti and Ginny Wade, for their work with Coventry Food Pantry. All three women have helped residents in the Owen J. Roberts School District by working to raise awareness for hunger and creating partnerships
with the school district, area religious organizations and service organizations. They have helped launch programs, including OJR Make a Difference Day, the Back Pack Program, USPS Canned Drive, Feel the Warmth and In Ian’s Boots.
The award presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday on Henry Bernat Field at Wildcat Stadium.
