Ashley Barron named Outstandin­g Student of Year by PSRC

Ashley Barron of Coatesvill­e, a senior student in the respirator­y care program jointly sponsored by Indiana University of Pennsylvan­ia (IUP) & West Penn Hospital (WPH) in Pittsburgh, has been selected as the program’s Pennsylvan­ia Society of Respirator­y Care (PSRC) Outstandin­g Student of the Year.

Each year, one student from each accredited Respirator­y Therapy school in Pennsylvan­ia is selected as the student who demonstrat­es: quality academic and clinical performanc­e, leadership, initiative, commitment to the profession and is most likely to make a positive impact on the profession. The award was presented to Barron at the PSRC Southwest District seminar at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel & Conference Center in Cranberry, PA on Sept. 29.

As the Outstandin­g Student award winner, Barron received a paid conference registrati­on fee, an award certificat­e and a one year membership renewal for the American Associatio­n of Respirator­y Care (AARC).

Barron expects to graduate from IUP in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in respirator­y care. She would like to focus her career on the respirator­y care of neonatal and pediatric patients in critical care. She enjoys volunteeri­ng for community service projects and her role as a course tutor. She loves spending time with family and friends, trying new recipes, cooking and travel.
