A horse that had fallen through some ice covering a pond was rescued by first responders.
CHARLESTOWN >> A horse that had fallen through some ice covering a pond was rescued by first responders Tuesday morning.
At about 10:45 a.m. the East Whiteland Fire Company got a call about a horse who had wandered onto a pond and fallen through ice near Hollow Road.
The owners and some of their friends had worked for about an hour to free the animal before calling the incident in.
Deputy Fire Chief Matt Fink said emergency crews arrived on scene shortly before 11 a.m. and had the horse freed about 10 minutes later and at the moment the horse’s temperature is in good condition.
“It’s an uncommon thing,” Fink said referring to the nature of the incident. “We’re glad nobody got hurt and the horse is doing good.”
Fink said that emergency crews brought additional equipment and helped to chop a path in the ice to get the horse out of the pond, and that the Certified Ani- mal Rescue team, a volun- teer organization dedicated to resolving these kinds of incidents, helped as well.
Malvern EMS also as- sisted on scene, accord- ing to the fire department’s website. To contact Daily Local News staff writer Adam Farence, email afarence@dailylocal.com, or call 610235-2647.
