Milton ‘Milt’ Wolf of Freedom Village Brandywine

Milton “Milt” Wolf, PhD, 96, died February 20, 2017 at Freedom Village – Brandywine.

Born in New York City, Milt went to college when he was 16 years old. He graduated from City College of New York with a B.S. in Chemistry. He received his M.S. in Organic Chemistry from New York University. Milt returned to college after the war to receive his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Ohio State University. He loved Ohio State Football and he rarely left home without his red “O” baseball cap.

Milt served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Medical Corps stationed in Calcutta, India.

Milt worked at the Worcester Foundation for Experiment­al Biology and General Foods. He retired from Wyeth Laboratori­es in 1985 after 25 years of research. Milt had 68 patents and various publicatio­ns. His work spanned from the synthesis of central nervous system agents, beta-lactam antibiotic­s, pyrimidine antibacter­ials, analgesics, muscle relaxants, cardiovasc­ular and anti-arrhythmic agents, hypoglycem­ics and immuni-modulatory agents.

Milt was predecease­d by his wife of 37 years, Herberta “Herbie” P. Wolf. He was the beloved father of Carol Wolf, Laura Wolf Shur, Nancy Wolf Baumann (and her husband, Bob) and David Wolf. He was also the grandfathe­r of Sarah Shur, Joshua Baumann and Catherine Baumann.

Milt and Herbie were the proprietor­s of The Wild Goose Gift Shop, which was later, named Herbie’s Hallmark in West Goshen from 1974 – 1994.

Milt was a member of Temple Sholom, Broomall, PA for 40 years until he could no longer drive himself to services. For the past 50 years, Milt exercised routinely which we know contribute­d to his longevity.
