Andrew Marshall Bartholomew, formerly of Glen Mills

1945-2017

Andrew Marshall Bartholomew died on April 23, 2017 in Florida at the age of 71. Born May 13, 1945 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Vincent Marshall Bartholomew and the late Mary Fluke Bartholomew. He grew up in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, graduating from Salesianum School, Wilmington, Delaware, where he was an All-State and All-American offensive lineman and received M.V.P. and sportsmanship awards. He continued on a full football scholarship to the University of Kentucky. After college, he entered the United States Army and served two years in Germany. He then became a real estate investor and broker in Unionville, Pennsylvania. Andy enjoyed spending time with his three children, golf and fox hunting, and was a member of the Brandywine Hounds, West Chester, Pennsylvania for many years.

Following retirement, Andy moved to Great Oak Landing in Chestertown, Maryland, where he obtained a United States Coast Guard Captain’s license and spent many happy years sailing his yacht “Fantasia”.

For the last several years, Andy spent his winters in Florida. He loved the white sandy beach and beautiful views onto the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the dear friends that he made there.

“Captain Andy” loved and was loved deeply, and his infectious smile, warm laugh, and big heart will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by a brother, William Gordon Bartholomew (Raelene), of Portland, Maine, a sister, Laurie Bushnell (Joseph), of Narvon, Pennsylvania, three children, Jamie Bartholomew Aller (Steven), Andrew Marshall Bartholomew II (Anisa), and William Brinton Bartholomew, two grandchildren, Lydia Hannelore Aller and George Ludwig Aller, and an ex-wife, Lydia Willits Bartholomew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth French (Christopher), and a brother, Robert Bartholomew. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
