Villa Maria rolls into lax quarters

Audrey Fantazzia poured in seven goals as Villa Maria cruised to a 20-4 victory over Saucon Valley in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A girls lacrosse championsh­ip on Monday.

The third place team from District 1 will meet district champion Radnor in the quarterfin­al on Saturday.

Annina Iacobucci added four goals, while Hannah Young and Sarah Delaney posted a pair of goals each.

Villa took control from the start and led 12-2 at halftime. Maddie Medve made seven saves in goal.

BISHOP SHANAHAN 17, WYOMING SEMINARY 5 >> Jess Holowsko scored three times as the Eagles waltzed past the District 2 champions and into the quarterfin­als of the Class 2A tournament. Kenzie Staska, Abigail Cooper, Erin O’Donnell and Kaela Smith had two goals each. Shanahan will take on District 12 winner Cardinal O’Hara on Saturday in the quarterfin­als.

BRANDYWINE VALLEY SLOWPITCH >> Ed Martin recorded five hits and ended the game with an excellent catch as Avante Spa collected an 18-8 win over Brothers Pizza. Everyone in the Avante lineup recorded two hits or more. Bill Pfifer, Fred Waldbusser and Bob Shemansky had three hits apiece as Goshen Beverage posted a 14-7 win over LifeSmoke Vapors in a rain-shortened contest. Mike Szcerba had two hits and was the winning pitcher.
