Open house celebrates new Newtown Square location

-

The Chester Ridley Crum Watersheds Association (CRC) had an Open House on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at their new office located in the historic Garrett Farm House in the Willistown Township’s Okehocking Preserve, Newtown Square, Chester Co. The Board of Directors were delighted to welcome many CRC members, volunteers, and supporters during this special occasion.

Guests enjoyed several interesting and fun activities. House tours were given by Walt Cressler who talked about the history of the 1802 Garrett Farm House and the Okehocking Tribe of the Lenape Indians who lived in the Ridley Creek Watershed before moving West. Kevin Magerr guided guests on a nature walk and discussed how the adjacent landscape attributes to the health of a stream, the importance of riparian buffers for the overall health of the aquatic ecosystem, and the physical attributes that make up the stream corridor. Kids had a great time rock painting with volunteers Quincy Carpenter and Liz Bouvette and naturethemed face painting with volunteers Bea Cressler and Juliana Li. Everyone enjoyed live acoustic music by C.O. and locally brewed beer by Victory. Hats off to our generous sponsors C.O. and Victory Brewing Company and to the creatively talented CRC volunteers.

The Chester Ridley Crum Watersheds Association is devoted to the protection, conservation, restoration, and enjoyment of the natural resources of its namesake streams in Delaware and Chester counties. CRC was founded in 1970 by twenty-four environmentally conscious community members that advocated and promoted the health and well-being of our streams.

Today, CRC continues its mission established decades ago by dedicated visionaries. CRC’s programs improve the quality of our drinking water and restores and protects our natural resources, benefiting everyone in our three watersheds and beyond.
