COATESVILLE » They should never be forgotten. The thousands of victims of the Sept. 11 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center twin towers will be remembered at the National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum’s “Coatesville Remembers September 11th” Commemorative Service, Monday, Sept. 11. The service, commencing at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 10:30 a.m., will take place at the site of the Steelworkers’ Memorial, which is marked by one of the 10 50-ton World Trade Center steel tridents recovered by the museum in 2010. The Memorial is on the NISHM grounds, 50 S. 1st Ave, adjacent to the parking lot.

New this year is an openair Remembrance Concert at the Memorial site at 7 p.m. featuring the Lukens Concert Band and the 49ers Chorus.

A bell will be rung six times during the morning service, followed each time by a moment of silence to mark times of historic significance involving the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and the crash of Flight 93, which was the result of heroic passengers who died trying to retake control of the airplane from terrorists intending to crash into a Washington, D.C. target. There will be music by members of Lukens Band and comments between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. by clergy as well area representatives.

Following the service, visitors are invited to take a free self-guided tour of the museum, which is handicapaccessible. In addition to the exhibits related to iron and steelmaking in America and Coatesville, visitors that day will be able to view a variety of 911-related exhibits and video programs. These include “102 Minutes That Changed America,” “The Day The Towers Fell,” “9/11 Voices From The Air,” “Steel Comes Home” and “Steel and The 911 Museum.”
