Paul Sterling Grove
Paul Sterling Grove, 94, died August 16, 2017 at the Freedom Village Retirement Community in Coatesville PA. Born in Berkeley Springs WV, he was the son of John Emerson Grove and Dora Michael Grove. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-five years, Jewell Turner Grove, brother Emerson Nawrath Grove and sister Inez Louise Grove.
Paul Grove was a plant manager for Certain-Teed Roofing Corporation in York PA and Richmond CA. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving as a navigator during World War II.
Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church in West Chester. In retirement, he served as a board member of the West Chester Area Senior Center. Paul was an avid gardener. He was proud of his home state and a lifelong advocate for anything “West Virginia”. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was known for his generous spirit, engaging personality and keen sense of humor.
Paul Grove is survived by a son, Douglas Paul Grove of Silver Spring MD, a daughter, Susan Grove (Steve) Hamilton of Dayton OH, two grandchildren, Jenna (Brad) Bertke and Christopher Hamilton, two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Benjamin Bertke, his dear friend, Marion McCreary of Freedom Village, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration will be held at Freedom Village on Saturday, August 26 at 11 am. Funeral and interment services will be held at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 165 Pious Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs WV on Monday, August 28 at 11 am, preceded by a viewing at 10 am. Arrangements are by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home. The family offers that memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner St., West Chester PA, Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, or the Freedom Village Scholarship Fund.
