Grenade, explosive material found in home

- Staff Report

UWCHLAN » A grenade and explosive material were found inside a Uwchlan Township home on Thursday night, according sources.

Uwchlan police said that they responded at about 5:20 p.m. on Thursday to the 600 block of Brecknock Drive in Uwchlan Township to assist members of Chester County Adult Probation as they made a home visit to a probationer. During the encounter, police said there was some concern for items in the home that appeared to be incendiary in nature, but they did not specify what it was.

“Out of an abundance of caution, members of the Chester County Sheriff’s Office were asked to respond with a K-9 to assist,” Uwchlan police said in a news release on Friday.

Members of the Montgomery County Bomb Disposal Unit were later asked to assist at the scene.

“During their investigation several items of concern were identified,” Uwchlan police said. “Those items were later removed from the home and stored as evidence.”

While police did not specify what was found, sources said a grenade and explosive material were found inside the home.

Police said that during that portion of the investigation there was no concern for public safety beyond a small perimeter around the property, and no residents needed to be evacuated from their homes. No injuries were reported.

Police said the probationer was taken into custody for several probation violations and later transported to Chester County Prison. Criminal charges from the Uwchlan Township Police Department are pending.
