Oxford brings home pair of titles

The Oxford boys and girls cross country teams took home first-place team trophies at the Penncrest Invitation­al on Saturday.

For the boys, Oxford registered 30 points, outdistanc­ing host Penncrest with 49.

Individual­ly, Evan Campbell finished in third place in a time of 17:13. Bruce Trimmer was fourth in 17:22, Gavin Fitzgerald was fifth in 17:24 and Luke Campbell placed sixth in 17:27.

The girls edged Penncrest by a three-point margin, 3841. Leading the way was Christina Jimenez in third at 21:56. Sarah Wilkinson finished fourth and Taj Lanier was fifth.

Boys Cross Country

OBEROD INVITATION­AL » Chester County schools finished 1-2-3 in Delaware. Unionville was first with 42 points, followed by Downingtow­n West with 61 and West Chester Henderson. James Conway was the top individual, finishing fourth for the Indians. Teammate Colton Walker was fifth. Henderson’s Calvin Pash and Luke Geier were sixth and seventh, while Downingtow­n West’s Ryan Straub and Ben Datte were eighth and ninth.

Girls Cross Country

OBEROD INVITATION­AL » Unionville finished second to host Tatnall in the girls race. Downingtow­n West was third and Kennett finished fourth. Marcella Krautzel finished fourth overall for the Indians at 21:29. Nina Gallagher of Downingtow­n West was sixth and Rachel Hyzny of Kennett was seventh.

GREAT VALLEY 2, WILLIAM

TENNENT 1 » Owen Deitch scored the game-winning goal with three minutes left in the second half as the Patriots (3-4-1) posted the nonleague win. Deitch tapped in a pass from Federico Nogueta into an open net. Nogueta also scored for Great Valley. LOWER MERION 1, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 0, OT » Lower Merion scored in the first overtime to edge the Golden Knights. Andrew DiStefano made six saves for Rustin.

5, BOYERTOWN 0 » Dylan Smith notched a pair of goals as the Warriors (6-12) cruised to the nonleague victory. Chris Roberts, Sam Martin and Charlie Collins also scored for Henderson.

Field Hockey

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 2, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1 » Romea Riccardo scored a pair of unassisted goals to lift the Whippets (8-0) to the nonleague victory.

Volleyball

RIDLEY 3, OXFORD 1 » Logan Wolfe had 12 kills, four blocks and two aces as the Hornets fell in the nonleague contest. Sarah Robinson added 40 digs and Kaitlyn Baker tallied 11 assists. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 3, METHACTON 1; WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 3, LOWER MERION

0T » The Golden Knights swept the nonleague trimatch. They topped Methacton in the first match, 20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12. Callie McGinnis had 19 assists, Emily Supplee had 22 digs, Emma Klanica added nine kills and Kaia Johnson notched 12 kills and four blocks. In the second game, Rustin downed Lower Merion, 25-13, 25-14, 25-9. Johnson led the way with 11 kills, four aces and three blocks. Sipplee added 16 digs, Dani Emrich recorded seven digs and four aces and McGinnis notched 23 assists and three aces.

Water Polo

BEAST OF THE EAST TOURNAMENT » The Friars (9-1) captured the first game in overtime, 7-6 over North Penn. Jack Cassidy scored the game-winner with 55 seconds left in the second extra session. Griff Delaney was the star in net with 12 saves and eight steals. Issac Salinas notched four goals, Cassidy had two and Sean Oates one. In the semifinals, Malvern fell 9-7 to the Brunswick School from Connecticu­t. Salinas had four more goals, Salle two and Oates added a single tally.
