Rustin clinches first division title

Emma Nelson had 19 kills and nine digs as West Chester Rustin clinched its first Ches-Mont League American Division volleyball championsh­ip with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 victory over West Chester Henderson.

Alessia Mattera added 13 kills, 12 digs and six assists as the Golden Knights improved to 10-0 in the American. Callie McGinnis added 29 assists.

“This is a special group of kids,” said Rustin coach Harry Blitzberge­r. “We have nine seniors who have all chipped in to fill valuable roles, and a group of juniors and sophomores who compete with them everyday in practice and challenge them to play at a high level.

“We’ve had many tight matches in our schedule and our core leaders step up each and every time to make something happen.”

Fiona Pyfer had 17 kills and nine digs and Hope Dusey collected four blocks for the Warriors (11-6).

DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 3, OXFORD 0 » Aly Reardon collected 12 kills and Kenzie Pincura nine as the Whippets (7-3, 9-4) posted the Ches-Mont victory, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19. Hailey Lewis added four kills and three aces. Brynn Nanni had four kills and three blocks, Nicole Walker registered four kills and Chloe O’Donnell had seven aces and 17 assists.

For the Hornets, Logan Wolfe had two blocks and four kills, Catie Vanwoert had six kills, Danielle Stackhouse added two aces and 14 digs and Madeline Williams collected 10 assists.

GREAT VALLEY 3, AVON GROVE 0» Lindsay Gal and Maggie Renehan had strong games as the Patriots recorded the 25-14, 25-23, 25-18 ChesMont victory.

VILLA MARIA 3, ST. BASIL 0 » Nicole Cooney had 12 kills and 12 digs as the Hurricanes won the AACA (10-1, 11-3) contest, 25-14, 25-19, 2517. Villa Maria defeated St Basil 3-0 in a match played in Jenkintown. Millie Collins and Alessia Giannandre­a both had eight kills, Kelsey Hoff 32 assists, while Molly Dunfee and Alivia Orvieto both had 13 digs and four aces.

GREAT VALLEY 15, OCTORARA 50» The Patriots (5-1) took nine of the top 10 spots to roll to the Ches-Mont American victory. Matt Dietrick of Great Valley was first in 18:52, edging out teammate Michael Search. MALVERN PREP 19, HAVERFORD SCHOOL 38 » Peter Borger was first and Collin Hess second as the Friars moved to 5-0 with the Inter-Ac victory.

GREAT VALLEY 23, OCTORARA 37» Amy Willig captured first place as the Patriots (51) collected the Ches-Mont American victory.

Water Polo

MALVERN PREP 9, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 4 » Issac Salinas had three goals and four steals as the Friars (40, 14-1) won the Inter-Ac matchup. Sean Oates added two goals and an assist, Steven Salle tallied three assists four steals and goalkeeper Griff Delaney made 13 saves.
