Motorcyclist, 31, killed in accident at intersection
Jeffrey Lynn Collins Sr. leaves behind a wife and three children
NEW GARDEN » A 31-year-old man was killed Monday morning when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car driven by a 77-year-old man from Landenberg.
Jeffrey Lynn Collins Sr., 31, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chester County Coroner’s office. He leaves behind a wife, three children, and an unborn child.
According to the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department, the accident took place Oct. 23 at 9:48 a.m. at the intersection of Newark Road and Egypt Run Road in New Garden
Township.
Police said that Jemiq Seapan, 77, of Landenberg was driving a 2014 Toyota Prius and pulled out from a stop sign on Egypt Run Road, traveling east and directly into the path of an oncoming Harley Davidson motorcycle that was
traveling north on Newark Road. The motorcycle impacted the right side of the Prius and Collins was thrown from it. Seapan was uninjured. Collins was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Chester County Coroner’s Office. There were no known witnesses to the crash, and at this time there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, police
said. The Chester County Serious Crash Assistance Team (SCAT) assisted with processing the scene. Both vehicles were towed from the scene pending a safety inspection.
The investigation is ongoing. Police were assisted with traffic control by the Avondale Fire Company.
This is the second fatal traffic accident this month in New Garden Township that involved a passenger
vehicle and a motorcycle. The circumstances in both crashes were nearly identical, police said.
Gerry Simpson, chief of the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department and an avid motorcyclist, reminds the public to be extra aware of motorcycles and to take a few extra moments to ensure that it is safe, before pulling out from a stop sign.
