Dinniman meets with local YMCA youth advocate

WEST CHESTER » State Sen. Andy Dinniman, D-19, recently met with Gabby Pino, a youth advocate for the Jennersvil­le YMCA, during YMCA Healthy Living Day in the Pennsylvan­ia Capitol.

Dinniman, who serves as Senate Chair of the YMCA Legislativ­e Caucus, met with Pino to discuss the importance of state support for local and regional YMCAs, as well as important YMCA programs such as Diabetes Prevention Program, LIVESTRONG at the Y, Blood Pressure and Self-Monitoring, and Tobacco Cessation and Prevention.

“Our local YMCAs continue to fill a vital role in our communitie­s by providing essential services that promote physical and mental health and wellness for children, families, and senior citizens,” Dinniman said. “From childcare services to teen sports and programs to staying active in your golden years and everything in between, the YMCA is the place to be. That’s why it is so important that we continue to support the YMCA and its mission.”

Dinniman and Pino also attended a press conference and rally in the main Rotunda of the Pennsylvan­ia Capitol.

Pino, of New London and a student at Avon Grove High School, was one of 20 YMCA youth and government students selected to participat­e as legislativ­e advocates.

Following the Rotunda event, she met with Dinniman and other state lawmakers to showcase the YMCA’s healthy living programs and advocate on behalf of the outstandin­g work of the Y promoting healthy living and healthy lifestyle choices.
