Dinniman, Comitta view ‘Fabric of Peace’ during visit to Harrisburg
HARRISBURG » State Sen. Andy Dinniman, D-19, and state Rep. Carolyn Comitta, D-156, recently viewed “The Fabric of Peace,” a display of four floor-to-ceiling length quilts created and produced by women artists and quilters from around the globe.
The project, organized by the Westtown-based Regional Center for Women in the Arts (RCWA), visited the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg and was put on display in the East Wing Rotunda.
“The Fabric of Peace” is designed to be a project by women that connects shared interests, as they each design and create a square of the quilt.
Valetta, the director of the RCWA who envisioned the project, said its goal was to “bring women together to work for peace, to use the arts as a means for uniting culture, to find grassroots solutions to conflict in the world, and to encourage women’s groups to create peace quilts which spread that message.”
“This is a unique and creative project that began right here in Chester County through the vision and hard work of Valetta and has gone international,” Dinniman said. “It speaks to the power of the arts and recalls our Quaker heritage of understanding, tolerance, and acceptance. And what better time than the holiday season to reflect on the promise of peace for the world.”
Both Dinniman and Comitta thanked Valetta and members of the RCWA for their positive statement in promoting peace through the arts.
