WEST CHESTER » Immaculata University has announced that Paoli resident William Carr, Steinway Artist, professor of music and chair of the Music Department, has been named a “Top Music Teacher” for 2017 by Steinway & Sons. Dr. Carr was nominated for this prestigious award by Jacobs Music, the only Steinway & Sons dealer representative for Southeastern and South Central Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey.

“To be named as one of the best music teachers in the country by Ron Losby, CEO and president of Steinway & Sons, is indeed an honor. To be nominated by officials from Jacobs Music, who work with the region’s best teachers at all educational levels, is an example of how music transcends all boundaries,” said Carr. “I am deeply honored to be recognized.”

Carr studied piano at the Juilliard School with Adele Marcus as well as at Temple University, and he earned his doctorate in piano at the Catholic University of America with Marcus. He continued his piano studies in Germany and Austria with concert pianist, Paul Badura-Skoda. He has taught at Immaculata for 25 years, and in 1998, he was honored as the first recipient of the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award.
