Angle, Henderson run away from Octorara

West Chester Henderson broke open a close battle with a five-run third inning and went on to defeat Octorara 8-1 in Ches-Mont League baseball action on Wednesday. Shane Angle knocked in three runs for the Warriors and teammates Ian Tracy and Logan Conduit each had two hits for Henderson. Ryan Schillinge­r paced the Braves with three hits. UNIONVILLE 4, COATESVILL­E 2 » The Indians came back from an early deficit to edge the Raiders. Joe Zubillaga and Theron Schilling each had two hits and combined to drive in three runs for Unionville. Coatesvill­e scored two unearned runs in the first inning but was unable to get a hit in seven innings of play. AVON GROVE 3, WEST CHESTER EAST 2 » The Devils capitalize­d on three Vikings’ errors to score three runs in the sixth inning and East’s comeback bid fell short in the seventh. Bryce Carey and Andrew Nole each knocked in runs for Avon Grove, and pitcher Ryan Gerenser allowed just three hits and no earned runs in six innings for work. Adam Smith and Owen Egolf had doubles to pace the Vikings. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 8, OXFORD 2 » Al Schoessler and Hunter Hall had solo home runs as the Whippets beat the Hornets. Winning pitcher Adam Grintz struck out 10 and allowed five hits, while Tommy Ailason, Eric Grintz and Evan Williams each amassed two hits for West, who scored four runs in the sixth to break open a tight contest. WESTTOWN 8, EPISCOPAL 7 » Cianan Gamble, Jon Moldoff and Jadck Shea each delivered two hits as the Quakers edged Episcopal. Moldoff was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs in four innings of work.

DEVON PREP/DELCO CHRISTIAN 8, OXFORD 4 » Thanks to a 3-1lead after one quarter, DP/DC never trailed and wound up edging the Hornets in nonleague play. Tim Fitzgerald led the way with five goals and Ethan Gillin had a pair for the winners. WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 8, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 6 » The Golden Knights scored three goals in the fourth quarter to break a 5-5 tie. Nick Madonna scored three times and added an assist, and Will Pileggi chipped in with two goals for Rustin. Jared Marchitell won six faceoffs for West.

SUN VALLEY 13, GREAT VALLEY 3 (5 INNINGS) » The Vanguards prevailed over the Patriots in the battle of the valley’s. Sun Valley scored 10 runs in the first inning. Madison Koons notched three RBI and Maddie Gugowiecz had two hits and registered the win on the mound. Hailey Barlow had a double for Great Valley. COATESVILL­E 8, UNIONVILLE 2 » Kayla Bock homered and tripled twice to lead the Raider past the Indians. Maggie Kane contribute­d three hits and McKenna Sherman scattered seven hits and fanned seven to pickd up the win for Coatesvill­e (2-0). Analise Griffiths had three hits to lead Unionville. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 14, OXFORD 4 (6 INNINGS) » It was a close contest until the Whippets scored 10 runs in the sixth inning. Caitlin Coker went 3-for-3 with a home run to lead West. Kay Rees was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Oxford. WEST CHESTER EAST 11, AVON GROVE 6 » Kinzie Thompson had three hits, including a home run, to power the Vikings past the Devils in Ches-Mont National action. Paige Olson, MacKinzie McLaughlin and San Gomez each added two hits for East.

Girls’ Lacrosse

HAVERFORD 15, WEST CHESTER EAST 4» In non-league action, the Fords topped the Vikings. Saundra Godshall paced East with two goals and teammates Alex Smeins and Tara Wahn each added single goals. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 14, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 7 » The Whippets had seven different players score en route to doubling uo on the Knights. Corrine Dednarik led West with eight points and the defense caused four turnovers for the Whippets (1-0). KENNETT 21, SUN VALLEY 2 » Eliza Fantazzi and Clair Borman each scored four times as the Blue Demons cruised past the Vanguards. Emma Connolly and Kristina Testa each contribute­d three goals, while Taylor Heimann and Morgan Schaen had two goals for Kennett. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 14, AVON GROVE 5 » Jordyn Bauer scored five times to pace the Warriors past ChesMont National opponent Avon Grove. Lilly Siskind added four goals and Peighton Bemenet chipped in with three goals for Henderson. Emma McCulley scored twice for the Red Devils. UNIONVILLE 13, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 7» Erin Garvey scored five times to lead the Indians past the Cougars. Annie McDonough also scored twice for Unionville. Emily Wurzel tallied four goals for East.

Women’s Lacrosse

WEST CHESTER 14, EAST STROUDSBUR­G 7» Maggie Stella registered a hat trick, and head coach Ginny Martino picked up her 300th career coaching victory as No. 13 West Chester (3-0, 8-0) defeated No. 21 East Stroudsbur­g.

Martino becomes the first NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse head coach to reach 300 career wins while also becoming the 10th women’s lacrosse coach at any collegiate level to reach that milestone. The win ended a 15-game conference winning streak by East Stroudsbur­g entering the match.

The Golden Rams, who held a 5-4 advantage at halftime, scored the first four goals of the second half to open up a 9-4 edge. ESU closed the margin to 10-7 with 10 minutes left to play. However, the hosts rattled off the last four goals of the contest to double up the Warriors, 14-7. West Chester is off to its best start since the Golden Rams went 9-0 in 2013. CABRINI 21, IMMACULATA 11 » Malvern’s Liz Hoeffner and Paoli’s Avery Murphy combined for 21 points to lead Cabrini past the Mighty Macs (2-1, 4-3).

College Softball

IMMACULATA 10, CAIRN 1; IMMACULATA 12, CAIRN 0 » The Mighty Mac (2-0, 6-8) took advantage of playing at home for the first time this year in their CSAC opener, cruising to a doublehead­er win.

In game one, junior Jessica Bormann continued to throw well, allowing just one run and sophomore Ashley Rey hit a grand slam and had five RBIs total. In the nightcap, freshman Emma Bischoff allowed just one hit while striking out four while sophomore Kayla Sponsel and senior Annemarie Bartow each hit a home run to lead the offense.
