Villa Maria’s Viscardo hurls perfect game

Villa Maria Academy softball pitcher Alyssa Viscardo hurled a perfect game against St. Basil Tuesday, winning 8-0. Viscardo struck out 11 St. Basil batters for her seventh shutout of the season for the Hurricanes (9-0). Villa Maria freshman Emma Woodcock lined a three-run double to the outfield fence, and junior Ana Ciarrocchi also hit a three-run double.

Jeff Benson, Pat Keegan and Joe Saulino each scored two goals. Rymiszewsk­i, Benson and John Hamm each dished out two assists. AVON GROVE 17, WEST CHESTER EAST 9 » The Red Devils were led by Nick Chastain (four goals), Jason Lengel (two goals, one assist), Joey Borcky (three goals), Zach Augustine (three goals, two assists), Scooter Whiteside (one goal, five assists) and Andrew Spencer (seven saves). WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 11, OXFORD 4 » The Golden Knights were led by Will Pileggi (three goals, one assist), Michael Burke (one goal, three assists), Nick Madonna (two goals, one assist), Alex Hutsell (three goals) and Jake Spaniak (won 11 of 16 faceoffs). CONESTOGA 19, RIDLEY 0 » The Pioneers built a 15-0 lead en route to a victory in which 14 different players scored at least one goal. James Reilly and PJ Hewitt combined to win 17 of 22 faceoffs. WESTTOWN SCHOOL 14, GEORGE SCHOOL 3 » Westtown was led by Blake Larsen (four goals, one assist), Jaxon Hendrickso­n (four goals, one assist), Jordany Robleto Baltazar (one goal, five assists), Elijah Vega (one goal, one assist), Pierce Eldredge (one goal, one assist), Mathias Zawoiski (one assist), Jack Devuono (one assist), Trent Kellner (three goals) and Charlie Herlocher (eight saves).

Cestare, Austin Taylor, Mike Rodriguez and Tommy Hammett each had two hits. BISHOP SHANAHAN 7, UNIONVILLE 5 » Five home runs were hit in this game, two by the Eagles’ Matt Samson (3-for-4, three runs scored), one by teammate Kevin Dodds (2-for-4, two RBIs), and one each by Unionville’s Kyle Lyons and Henry Goodier (three RBI’s). WESTTOWN 9, FRIENDS SELECT 8 » The Moose won this in eight innings, led by Jon Moldoff (3-for-5, two doubles, three RBI’s) and Patrick Culcasi (2-for-5, three RBI’s). The winning pitcher was Ewen Donald, who hurled two hitless innings of relief, striking out three.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 19, OXFORD 0 » Tina St. Clair scored four goals, Katie Stub its had a hat trick, and Emily Supplee and Michaela St. Clair each scored two goals for the winning Golden Knights, who built a 13-0 lead by halftime. Ashley Chisholm had two assists and a goal. AVON GROVE 16, WEST CHESTER EAST 14 » The Red Devils were led by Morgan Ohm, who scored seven goals. Caroline Malone, Ashley Jones, Delaney Ashworth and Grace Trautman each scored two goals for Avon Grove. East got five goals from Saundra Godshall, and three goals from Julia Nagel. Sophia Mangasaria­n had five saves for East. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 19, COATESVILL­E 4 » The Cougars (8-3, 6-1) got hat tricks from Leah Hunter, Kira Flynn, Caroline Brennan and Emily Wurzel. VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 14, ST. BASIL 0 » The Hurricanes (71, 6-0) received goals from 10 different players, and Paige de Mutis scored a hat trick. Villa Maria built a 10-0 halftime lead. Erin Finley and Sarah Delaney each scored two goals. CONESTOGA 16, RIDLEY 6 » The Pioneers were led by Amelia Kienzle (four goals, three assists), Sydney Sloan (three goals), Cam Evitts (three goals), Nia Scott (two goals) and Tessa Kerin (two goals).

Boys’ Tennis

UNIONVILLE 5, DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 2 » Unionville swept all of the doubles matches, plus first singles, where Victor Li won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Downingtow­n East won at second singles (Tristan McBride) and third singles (Luca Raswora). GREAT VALLEY 7, OCTOARA 0 » The Patriots swept all of their matches in straight sets, led by Amish Saini at first singles (won 6-0, 6-0), Ryan Hamel at second singles (won 6-0, 6-0) and Steve Coelho at third singles (won 6-1, 6-0). DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 4, METHACTON 3 » The Whippets won at first singles (Josh Biskowitz, who won 6-2, 6-0) and swept second through fourth doubles with the duos of Chase Hanak/Rahul Manda, Tim Basta/Griffin Hill singer and Dillon Claffey/Saket Varanasi, who all won in straight sets.

College Softball

IMMACULATA 17, CLARKS SUMMIT 1 » The Mighty Macs (20-14, 13-5 CSAC) started their final week of regular season play with a bang as they churned out 31 hits in two games at Clarks Summit (3-29, 1-17 CSAC) and defeated the Defenders, 17-1 and 9-0. Combined between the two games, sophomore Ashley Rey, senior Annemarie Bartow, and sophomore Michaela Petito combined to go 19-for-25 with 11 runs scored and 18 runs driven in for the middle of the Mighty Mac order. In game one, the Macs pounded out 20 hits, led by Rey’s 5-for-5 day with two doubles and a home run, and a 10-run fourth inning allowed them to pull away. IMMACULATA 9, CLARKS SUMMIT 0 » In the second game of the Mighty Macs doublehead­er sweep, Petito and sophomore Desiree Dinko combined for a one-hit shutout over five innings.

College Women’s Golf

ALVERNIA INVITATION­AL » West Chester University’s women’s golf squad drew the curtain on its 2017-18 campaign with a first-place finish at the Alvernia Invitation­al on a windy Ledgerock Golf Course that played to 5,810 yards Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Meghan O’Mara was runner-up, after shooting a 78 and tying three other golfers for first with a 78. Jones was declared the individual champion on a match of cards between herself, O’Mara, East Stroudsbur­g’s Samantha Miller and Kutztown’s Shannon Weber. West Chester shot a 318, marking the second straight round that the Golden Rams came in under 320, while outdistanc­ing Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference rivals Kutztown (323) and Millersvil­le (336).

“Today’s 318 is much more impressive than Sunday’s 311 at Glen Brook,” WCU head coach Doug Hendricks said. “This course is much harder and was played in very windy conditions. I’m really proud of this team.”

Right behind O’Mara, Jones, Miller and Weber was West Chester senior Lacey Bensing, playing in her final college tournament. She carded a 79 and will leave the Golden Rams with three school records in tow. She has the lowest career stroke average, lowest single-season stroke average and also shot the lowest round in school history Sunday at Glen Brook. It was Bensing’s 15th Top 5 finish in her college career. Julia rose Genuardi and Bridget Pyott each signed for an 80 and 81, respective­ly.

Adult Softball

T&T 18, LIFE SMOKE VAPOR 10» Jack Free hof had five hits and three RBI’s, Gary Blair four hits with a HR, Bill Isakson and Ed Turner each had three hits and combined for five RBI’s. Ken Weiler was the winner for T&T (2-0) in this Gold Division contest.
