DOWNINGTOWN » Teamsters Local Union 384 has endorsed Josh Maxwell for state representative in the 74th Legislative District.
“I am proud to be an advocate for workers and working families,” Maxwell said. “Labor is what laid the foundation for our communities and what is driving new economic development today. Standing with labor is a core progressive value and I will bring that to Harrisburg.”
Teamsters Local 384, based in Norristown, “supports those who support the needs of working families,” believing that “the strength of America lies within the communities of households pursuing the dream towards a better life.” For Local 384, Michael J. Bonaduce is president and business agent, and Matthew Condron is secretary-treasurer and business agent.
As mayor of Downingtown, Maxwell noted he has most recently brought jobs and economic opportunity to the area with his work on the transit-oriented development on the former Sonoco property in Downingtown, a project that is expected to raise property values of the borough by 17 percent and is projected to create 10 years of jobs.
“I grew up in a working family, and I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be for working families to make ends meet,” Maxwell said. “By bringing in more of these new projects, I intend to be a voice for labor and push for more opportunities and better quality of life throughout our district.”
This is the fourth candidate recognition for Maxwell, who has also received the endorsement of Equality PA, the commonwealth’s leading advocacy organization for LGBTQ+ rights, the Southeastern Pennsylvania National Organization for Women PAC, a longstanding feminist organization, and a candidate distinction from Moms Demand Action Against Gun Violence.
Maxwell also received more than 51 percent of the endorsement vote from local Democratic committee people at the nominating convention.
Dan K. Williams, pastor of New Life in Christ Fellowship in Coatesville, East Fallowfield resident Frank Pryor, both Democrats, and Coatesville resident Amber Little-Turner, a Republican, are also running for the 74th District. The 74th Legislative District includes Downingtown, East Caln, Caln, Valley Township, East Fallowfield, Sadsbury, Parkesburg, Modena, South Coatesville and Coatesville.
Pennsylvania’s primary elections will be held Tuesday, May 15. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
