Prowlers, Bandits win in WCABL

The West Chester Adult Baseball League kicked off its 2018 season with a doublehead­er Sunday at Farley Field. PROWLERS 7, THE JAYS 2 » The Prowlers coupled a robust offense and a solid pitching effort to defeat The Jays. Drew Constable, who ended the day with three hits and three RBI, gave the Prowlers (1-0) an early lead with his two-run single in the top of the first, and then doubled in yet another run in the top of the Prowlers’ third. Following RBI-doubles from Hiron Gonzalez and Billy Krebs and an RBIsingle from Steve McCardell, the Prowlers held a commanding 7-0 lead at the end of the fourth frame. The Jays (0-1) scored their only two runs in the bottom of the 5th. Winning pitcher Owen Hovick struck out six and stranded 11 Jays’ baserunner­s. Starter Noah Dolan took the loss for The Jays. BANDITS 6, RED MEN 4 » In the second game of Sunday’s doublehead­er, winning pitcher Isaiah Holmes went the distance, recording four strikeouts and stranding 11 Red Men baserunner­s as he led the Bandits (1-1) to their first victory of the season.

The Red Men (0-1) scored an unearned run in the top of the first and held onto their 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth, when Bandits’ leftfielde­r Rich Marinelli doubled in the tying run. The Bandits broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five additional runs on RBI-doubles from Jason Rowe and Nick Amicon, and Marinelli’s second RBI-double in as many innings. Reliever Joe Somohod took the loss for Red Men.

Men’s Track & Field

CIAA CHAMPIONSH­IPS » Lincolin junior Solomon Potter brought home three medals and earning three All-Conference honors as the Lincoln men’s track and field team recorded its best finish ever at the event, held at Bowie State University.

The Lions scored 61 points to place fourth overall, trailing third place Virginia Union by 17 points. Lincoln’s previous best finish was fifth place in 2015. This was the last CIAA meet for Lincoln senior and Coatesvill­e grad Deiondre Brown, as well as Anthony Ukaha and Mike Brown.

Potter brought home a gold, silver, and bronze medal. Potter won first for a season-best discus throw of 44.85 meters (147’ 2”); second place in shot put for a throw of 14.82 meters (48’ 7½”) and lastly, third place in javelin for a personalbe­st throw of 48.31 meters (158’ 6”).

More medals were earned by freshmen Xavier Fountain and Jordan Camper. Fountain broke the Lincoln school record in earning a second place finish in the javelin with a throw of 54.66 meters (179’ 3¾”). Camper also recorded a personal best in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.94 meters (6’ 4¼”), earning third place.

Sophomore Kyuande Johnson got an impressive personal best time of 1:54.55 in the 800 meter earning him third place. He was followed by freshman Lamar McMillan in sixth place scoring six and three points respective­ly.

Fountain, Camper and Johnson all earned AllCIAA honors with their top three finishes in their respective events.

Women’s Track & Field

CIAA CHAMPIONSH­IPS » Lincoln concluded its season with nine top ten finishes along, five personal best marks and one season best time as it placed eighth with a total of 20 points.

Freshman Kayla Tisdale recorded the highest finish among the Lion runners, placing fourth overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.66 seconds.

Lincoln’s two relay teams, the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 400-meter squads placed fifth in both events. The 4 x 100 meter team of Tisdale, Coatesvill­e’s Aasante Love, Danielle Terry and Lacendria Pulley produced a season best time of 49.95 seconds. The 4 x 400 team consisted of Pulley, Love, Osa Enabulele and Jerneice Morton and finished with a time of 4:19.73.

Enabulele notched the Lions only other top ten finish on the track with an eighth place effort in the 800 meter finals.

Boys Lacrosse

CONESTOGA 10, MALVERN PREP 9 (OT) » Nick Braendel scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Pioneers edged the Friars in an epic battle Saturday between two of the state’s top teams.

Tate Kienzle also scored two goals on the day for Conestoga, while Cliff Madden, Sean Bailey, James Reilly, Nick Cost, Matt Logan and Brendan Murphy each found the net. Goalie Scott MacMillan had an assist and six saves.

Four players scored two goals each for Malvern Prep: Seamus Glynn, Scott White, Jack Traynor, Quinn McCahon. Jimmy Gabrielsen also scored for the Friars, while goalie Will Pettit had 11 saves.
