Rep. Lewis recognizes fire company for service
The Sadsburyville Fire Company was founded 100 years ago
SADSBURY » State Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. presented the Sadsburyville Fire Company with a citation for the company’s 100-year anniversary.
Lewis, R-74 of Caln, honored the Sadsburyville Fire Company for its 100 years of service in Sadsbury Township and surrounding areas. Lewis said that the House of Representatives are pleased to acknowledge such organizations that contribute to the “well-being of their communities and ultimately to all the people of this great Commonwealth.”
“Fulfilling a vital role in the community, the Sadsburyville Fire Company stands as a tribute to skilled leaders and members who have carried it to its present heights. Organized on March 15, 1918, the company added a constitution and bylaws on May 7, 1918, and it is lauded as the only fire and rescue entity in Sadsbury Township,” the citation states. “From the beginning, the Sadsburyville Fire Company has provided effective fire service to the community, maintaining a commitment to updating its equipment and methods of operation. An extremely well-trained and disciplined team, its members are bound by the common goals of being well-prepared to preserve the lives and property of area resi-
dents and of safeguarding the well-being of their fellow citizens.”
Lewis presented the citation to Sadsburyville Deputy Chief Erik Brecht and company president, who said he was honored that the fire company was recognized for its efforts during the past 100 years. Lewis congratulated the firefighters on the growth and achievements made by the company. He wished them well with continuing to uphold the traditions and values of emergency services.
Sadsburyville firefighters said on their website that a devastating fire could have destroyed much of the town had it not been for the Parkesburg and Coatesville Fire Departments. After a second devastating fire, it alerted the residents of a need for some form of local fire protection.
In 2015 the company ran its busiest year since 1918 responding to 191 fire calls, according to its website. Sadsburyville noted that it is the only chartered fire and rescue entity in Sadsbury Township, responsible for 100 percent of coverage in the township.
