Gucwa nets 100th goal of Shanahan career

Bishop Shanahan’s Kyle Gucwa scored his 100th career goal Tuesday in the Eagles’ 16- 1 boys’ lacrosse win against Kennett. Gucwa finished the game with four goals, while teammate Gabe Goforth scored three goals and dished out two assists. Tyler Kingsbury won 17 of 21 faceoffs. Andrew Smyth, Dan Bathon and Kyle Pollick each scored two goals for Shanahan. CONESTOGA 18, LOWER MERION 5 » The Pioneers had 14 different goal scorers, and Nick Braendel, Chris Cara, Aiden Kelly and Will Schnorr scored two goals each. James Reilly and PJ Hewitt combined to win 19 of 24 faceoffs. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 17, OXFORD 1 » The Cougars got out to a 10- 0 first- quarter lead, and were led by Dillon Hammer ( three goals, two assists), Brian Miller ( two goals, one assist), Mike Ostertag ( two goals, one assist) and Colin Armbrust ( two goals).

SHIPLEY13, WESTTOWN4 » The Moose lost to Shipley in the Friends’ Schools League semifinals. For Westtown, the offense was led by Blake Larsen ( two goals, one assist), Trent Kellner ( one goal), Eli Vega ( one goal) and Pierce Eldredge ( one assist). Goalie Charlie Herlocher recorded 16 saves. WEST CHESTER EAST 16, SUNVALLEY 4 » The Vikings were led by Mike Nagel ( five goals, two assists) and Jacob Greiner ( two goals, three assists). Ten different players scored at least one goal for West Chester East. AVON GROVE 14, GREAT VALLEY3 » Joey Borcky and Jason Lengel each had a hat trick for the Red Devils, while Zach Augustine tallied two goals and three assists. Avon Grove led 11- 0 after the first quarter. Andrew Spencer and Zac Hanway combined for 10 saves, and Nate Hammond won nine of 10 faceoffs. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON1­7, DOWNING TOWN WEST 10 » The Warriors were led by Archer Rymiszewsk­i ( two goals, three assists), Jeff Benson ( three goals), Pat Keegan ( four goals, two assists), Joe Saulino ( three goals, three assists), Jack Saulino ( two goals, one assist), Luke Wierman ( three goals, two assists) and Kyle Dampman ( 12 saves). For the Whippets, Shea Dougherty scored three goals, Jameson Smyth and Nick Varano each tallied two goals, Ty Wolverton had four assists, and Owen Karp had 11 saves.

CONESTOGA 17, LOWER MERION 5 » Seven different Pioneers scored two goals each, including Nia Scott, Julia Littlewood ( two assists), Cam Evitts ( three assists), Amelia Kienzle ( two assists), Sydney Sloan, Rachel Clark and Emme Bucher. Sam Centofane had seven saves. DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 15, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 9 » The Whippets’ quartet of Tabitha Rodriguez, Corrine Bednarik, Peyton Mottice and Emily Feeney combined for 13 goals in the victory. Leaders for Henderson were Peighton Bement ( five goals, five draw controls, eight draw controls) and Lilly Siskind ( eight draw controls, two assists, two caused turnovers). VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 19, SACRED HEART 8 » The Hurricanes ( 15- 1, 120) remained undefeated in the AACa and were led by Hannah Young ( two goals, two assists), Bridget Finley ( three goals, one assist), Sarah Delaney ( four goals) and Erin Finley ( three goals, one assist). BISHOPSHAN­AHAN10, KENNETT8 » The visiting Eagles got five goals and five draw controls from Monica Manley. Other Shanahan standouts included Jess Gorr ( seven saves), Kaela Smith ( two goals, four assists), Kelsey French ( one goal), Jess Holowsko ( one goal, two draw controls) and Maddy Parke ( one goal). Lily Sandusky and Maddie Fowler each had a hat trick for Kennett. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 18, OXFORD 6 » Thirteen different Cougars scored at least one goal, led by hat tricks from Emily Wurzel and Hazel Gradner. Bridget Riley tallied two goals for DEast. Reese Canaday had a hat trick for Oxford.

Baseball

WESTTOWN5, FRIENDS SELECT 1 » For the victorious Moose in the Friends School Quaker Cup, pitcher Jon Moldoff allowed only four hits and one walk in seven innings, while striking out 10. Westtown had two doubles ( Cianan Gamble and Jack Shea), and Evan Fudala went 2- for- 3 with two RBI’s. Moldoff got his 100th career hit with a first- inning single for Westtown ( 11- 6, 7- 3).

Softball

OXFORD 12, OCTORARA 1 » For the Hornets in this five- inning contest, Cameo Powell was 2- for- 3 with a double, run scored and a RBI; Danielle Stackhouse was 2- for- 3 with two runs scored and a RBI; and Julie Cappelli had an RBI double. Winning pitcher Shannan Martin gave up no earned runs, only three hits and one walk in five innings, striking out four.
