Assault leads borough crime in past week

POTTSTOWN » Assault was the leading crime in Pottstown over the past week with five reported incidents since May 1.

According to crimemapping.com, a police-run website used to inform the public about crime in their area, five incidents involving non-aggravated assault have occurred over the past week. Those incidents were reported on Winding Road, Buttonwood Alley, the 200 block of North Charlotte Street, the 300 block of North Washington Street and the 700 block of North Charlotte Street.

Drug and alcohol violations were the second most reported crime in Pottstown. Four incidents were reported over the past week including two cases of public drunkenness on North Adams Street and the 1500 block of East High Street and two cases of drug possession on Chestnut Street and the 400 block of King Street.

Vandalism and disturbing the peace were each reported three times over the past week. Acts of vandalism included two cases of criminal mischief to vehicles on the 700 block of Logan Street and Walnut Street as well as a case of criminal mischief to buildings on the 300 block of Diamond Street. Disorderly conduct was reported on the 400 block of Johnson Street while harassment was reported twice on North Franklin Street and the 100 block of East High Street.

Two thefts occurred since May 1 including a retail theft on the 200 block of Shoemaker Road and a theft from buildings on South Franklin Street.

Vehicle theft, DUI, weapons offenses and burglary were each reported once over the last week. A vehicle theft was reported on the 300 block of Spruce Street along with a DUI on the 800 block of North Hanover Street. A weapons offense involving a knife was reported on the 500 block of North York Street and a burglary with forced entry was reported on the 200 block of Manatawny Street.
