NORTHAMPTON » Hannah Close and Erin Garvey each had five goals while Emma Malone added four and Madi Holt three as Unionville rolled to a 24-7 win in the its PIAA Class 3A first round game against Easton Tuesday afternoon.

Veronica Hineman had four assists for Unionville, while Claire Donovan and Lily Niemkiewicz each scored twice for the Indians, who advance to face Archbishop Carroll on Saturday. Carroll took care of Downingtown West in Tuesday’s first round.

“I think the loss we had against Springfield (in districts) was a really good gut check right before states,” Garvey said. “We’ve come out even harder and it’s gotten us back in the game.

“Everybody has been playing really calm and collected,” Garvey added. “We played really frantic at the beginning of the playoffs. Just spreading out and running our plays and taking a breath has been a big boost.”

Madison Doucette had 10 saves for Unionville, while Mauria Blair, Shannony Garvey, Annie McDonough, Gaetanna Tavani and Lily Dietrich finished out the scoring for Unionville in the runaway win.

“We want to go all out this year,” Garvey said. “We definitely have what it takes, we just have to mentally get there. Every other year it’s come down to our attitudes. We just have to keep that in check.”
