Police probe rash of vehicle break-ins

Police are investigat­ing a series of vehicle break-ins which occurred Saturday, between 7 and 8:30 p.m.

EAST BRANDYWINE­TOWN-SHIP » Police are investigat­ing a series of vehicle break-ins which occurred Saturday July 7, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Two vehicles were broken into and a third was rummaged through in the parking lot of the AppleCross Country Club located at 160 Zynn Road.

A fourth vehicle was broken into in the parking lot of the East Brandywine Township Park located on Dilworth Road. At both locations there were activities going on and the parking lots were filled with cars, police said. Vehicles broken into had passenger side glass or rear glass broken. Purses containing cash and credit cards were taken from three vehicles and a credit card stolen from the fourth vehicle.

Police said all of the break-ins occurred during daylight hours. Police received a call from the Chester County Park Rangers on Sunday, July 7 regarding found property from some of the victims. The property was found along a bridge on Cedar Knoll Road. Police are requesting anyone with additional informatio­n to call police at 610269-4300.

FIGHT » On Sunday July 8, at 6 p.m., East Brandywine Township Police responded to the 3700 block of East Fishervill­eRoad for an assault in progress between two brothers. On arrival, police found Tyler Johnson, 24, bleeding heavily from a head injury. His brother, Chase Johnson, 20, had minor scrapes and remained cooperativ­e. A female on location told police the fight had been over green tea. While police were trying to investigat­e the incident, Tyler Johnson picked up a large rock. Police were forced to deploy a taser on him after he threw the rock at them and failed to comply with multiple orders to drop the rock and calm down. Both brothers were taken into custody and charged with simple assault, harassment and terroristi­c threats. Chase Johnson was arraigned before District Judge Kraut and released on unsecured bond. Tyler Johnson was first transporte­d to Brandywine Hospital for treatment and then to Chester County Prison Central Booking for processing.

TIRE THEFT » Wheels valued at more than $6,000 were stolen from Devon Hill BMW, police said. After a thorough investigat­ion was conducted, police charged Edgardo Cartagena, 37, of Philadelph­ia, with theft by unlawful taking; theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT » The Pennsylvan­ia State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint from 11 p.m. on July 7 until 3 a.m. on July 8 along Route 896 north of Indiantown Road, London Britain Township, Chester County. The checkpoint resulted in 120 vehicle stops, three DUI arrests, two misdemeano­r drug arrests, 10 summary traffic citations, and four written warnings.

Police said the goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related fatal and serious crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvan­ia’s highways.
