Unionville to induct three alumni to Wall of Honor
EAST MARLBOROUGH » Three alumni from Unionville-Chadds Ford School District will be honored for their contributions to the community during Homecoming festivities on Oct. 5.
Each year, UCFSD selects alumni whose postgraduate lives reflect the values of its mission for recognition on the Wall of Honor. This prestigious award recognizes UCFSD alumni for a lifetime of achievements and contributions. Nominees have had significant accomplishments in their personal and/or professional lives through community and/or humanitarian service and/or have exhibited a lifelong commitment to educational excellence.
During the upcoming school year, Unionville-Chadds Ford School District will honor Harry Hammond, Jean Russell and Dora McQuaid for their achievements and contributions:
Harry Hammond
Harry Hammond, Class of 1957. A PGA Master Professional, Harry Hammond has achieved an outstanding level of honor and recognition nationally in the field of golf, and he has devoted his life to teaching golf to youth in the western Philadelphia suburbs. Harry’s work has brought the joys of golf and the values and empowerment of sports to countless underprivileged children in the Philadelphia area, adding to their personal development as they grow up and become contributing members of their own communities. Harry is as generous as he is humble, and his impact on the greater community reaches far beyond the game.
Jean Russell
Jean Russell, Class of 1969. Jean Russell taught first grade at Chadds Ford Elementary School for over 20 years, inspiring children to believe in themselves and develop a true love of learning. Fellow teachers, administrators, and parents describe her as a model teacher and a leader among her peers. Jean inspired everyone around her with her strong work ethic and skills in the classroom. Her dedication to preparing lessons tailored to each individual child provided an enriching experience to all of her students, which will contribute to making the world a better place as these children are becoming the adults of today and tomorrow.
Dora McQuaid
Dora McQuaid, Class of 1986. An award winning poet, activist, and speaker on domestic and sexual violence, Dora McQuaid has devoted her life’s work to helping victims rise above abuse, using writing as a tool for empowerment. Dora’s personal story of survivorship inspires victims and helps them on their own paths to healing. Collaborating internationally, Dora teaches at the university level in Arizona and at workshops, prisons, outreach programs, and across multiple media. In addition to the courage and inspiration her work provides to victims, colleges and prisons across the country use Dora’s materials and programs as instructional tools, helping to prevent future abuse and make communities safer for all.
