Route 30 ramp to Rotue 202 north to close at night for construction

- Digital First Media

The ramp from the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to U.S. 202 north in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, Chester County, will be closed at night next week for demolition of a section of the southbound U.S. 202 bridge over the ramp and the adjacent Amtrak rail lines, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced.

The ramp will be closed from Sunday, Aug. 12, through Thursday, Aug. 16, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Friday, Aug, 17, from 10: p.m. to 8 a.m. the following morning.

U.S. 30/Exton Bypass motorists heading to northbound U.S. 202 will exit at Business U.S. 30, turn right onto Business U.S. 30 and right onto the ramp to northbound U.S. 202.

Motorists are advised that backups may occur at times approaching the work zone. All scheduled activities are weather-permitting.

PennDOT is currently rehabilitating and re-decking the inside half of the southbound U.S. 202 bridge over Amtrak following completion of work earlier this summer on repairs and redecking of the northbound bridge.

During construction on the southbound bridge, a single “express lane” of southbound U.S. 202 traffic has been shifted temporarily onto the rebuilt northbound bridge. A second southbound lane remains on the southbound side.

The work is part of PennDOT’s $26.4 million project to rehabilitate the northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges over Amtrak and the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass ramp, and replace the concrete pavement on the ramps to and from U.S. 202 and U.S. 30/Exton Bypass. The entire project is expected to be completed in fall 2019.
