Conservancy to receive $125K for land acquisition
WEST CHESTER » State Rep. Steve Barrar, R-160, announced that the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) met and approved a $125,000 grant for the Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County (TLC) to purchase several parcels of land.
The 77 acres to be purchased from the Donohue family, which combined with the adjacent Muller lands, will secure the southern segment of the Kennett Greenway and provide a safe transportation route for pedestrians and bicyclists between the in-progress western segment and TLC’s Stateline Woods Preserves.
“While Pennsylvania is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors throughout the year, it can be challenging to find safe places for recreation,” Barrar said. “Now, local residents will have another option when they want to go biking or hiking.”
When secured, these links will allow for the planning and construction of more than half of the planned Kennett Greenway. After the southern segment is planned and built, Greenway users will be able to walk from Kennett Square south into Delaware and to most of TLC’s preserves.
The total project cost is $2.3 million.
The CFA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth and holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
