LINCOLN PLAYERS OF THE WEEK » Three Lincoln University football players earned conference accolades for their performanc­es in Saturday’s 44-7 loss to Clarion. Only two games in the league were played due to cancellati­ons/postponeme­nts due to Hurricane Florence.

Senior Solomon Bassett was named the CIAA Defensive Lineman of the week while junior Dominique Rogers was named the CIAA Linebacker of the Week. Rounding out the honorees was Tayonte McKenzie, who was named the CIAA Rookie of the Week.

Bassett continued his solid allaround play on the Lions defensive line, recording three tackles (one for loss) and notched his third sack of the season. Solomon also blocked a Clarion extra point attempt, recovered a fumble and had one quarterbac­k hurry. He currently is tied for the league lead with three sacks and ranks 29th nationally, averaging 1 sack per game.

Rogers, a junior transfer from Monroe College, recorded 12 tackles (six solo) in Saturday’s game. Four of those resulted in loss of yards. Rogers also added one sack, on forced fumble and quarterbac­k breakup and a quarterbac­k hurry. He ranks fourth in the conference and 24th nationally with two tackles for loss/game.

McKenzie averaged 29.8 yards per kickoff return on special teams, gaining 179 total yards. He had returns of 40 and 51 yards. As a defensive back, McKenzie also recorded six tackles on the afternoon.
