2 students perform in ‘Aladdin Jr.’ ensemble
Two Downingtown students are performing in the ensemble for the “Aladdin Jr.” show at the Walnut.
Two Downingtown students are performing in the ensemble for the “Aladdin Jr.” show at the Walnut’s weeklong production.
Danielle Kucera, a junior at Downingtown West High School, started with The Theatre School at Walnut Street in fall 2017. She participated in the Advanced Musical Theatre class for teens. She also has participated in voice lessons at the Walnut in spring 2018. This past summer she was honored to participate for the first time in the Shakespeare performance division of Camp Walnut. She also stars in “Aladdin Jr.” as a character named Isir.
Maya Huberty, a freshman at Downingtown West High School, will be performing in her first main-stage show at the Walnut. She attended the Walnut summer program called Camp Walnut, this past summer.
Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” is based on the classic 1992 Disney movie, and updated to include Alan Menken’s new songs written for the 2014 Broadway production. Jesse Bernstein is directing the hour-long musical which will be performed live at Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia through Sunday.
Based on the animated film and Broadway show, Walnut officials said Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” is a family friendly show, filled with magic and thrills. When street urchin Aladdin falls for the strong-willed Princess Jasmine, he gets help from a fun-loving Genie to outsmart the wicked Jafar and win her hand.
Kucera is a member of the National Honor Society. Additionally, she studies with Susan Andres Brizick Voice Studio, Innovative Performing Arts Center, West Chester Studio for the Performing Arts, Walnut Theatre School, and summer program, Camp Walnut.
Huberty participates in the Choral Ensemble, Ski Club, Shakespeare Club, and National junior Honor Society. She gained her theatrical training with vocal coach Catherine Brown, The Lionville School of Dance, Walnut Theatre School, and summer program, Camp Walnut.
