Christmas in Marshallton House Tour set to return
It’s been five years since the last Christmas Tour of holiday decorated historic homes and buildings in the quaint village of Marshallton. To satisfy many requests, this year, on Saturday Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Marshallton United Methodist Church, 1282 West Strasburg Road, West Chester, will host a tour of 18 homes and public buildings.
For an historic perspective, in 1843 when Charles Dickens was writing his iconic “A Christmas Carol” in London, Marshallton Village, which was establish in the 1760s, already included many of the buildings on this tour - Bradford Friends Meeting House dating from 1765, the Blacksmiths shop (c. 1750), and a private home built in 1724, to name a few. In fact, the original Marshallton Methodist Church was built in 1828, and later remodeled. The carriage shed and stone wall around the cemetery date to 1850.
On the day of the tour, along with parking at the church, a box lunch will be available for purchase in the Fellowship Hall, and there will also be an arts and crafts show and sale, a cookie sale, plus live music in the sanctuary. Tickets to this interesting and educational event would make the perfect gift for that friend or neighbor who has everything.
Tickets, $25 in advance and $30 the day of the event, may be purchased by contacting the church office at 610-696-5247 or via email at office@marshalltonchurch.org.
This Christmas in Marshallton House Tour is the celebration of Marshallton United Methodist Church’s 190 years of mission and ministry in Marshallton.
