A Philadelphia police officer who was shot in the leg after he interrupted a confrontation between two men has been released from the hospital.

Officer Paul Sulock was released from Temple University Hospital around 2:30 p.m. Thursday and walked out on his own, slightly limping.

Sulock was shot Wednesday morning after he and another uniformed officer came upon a confrontation between two men in the Kensington neighborhood.

The men were crouched behind cars across the street from each other, one armed and apparently about to shoot the other. Commissioner Richard Ross said Sulock chased down one of the suspects despite his wound. The other was also arrested.

Ross said 31-year-old was there for the discharge and says Sulock is a hero.

The father of four has been on the force for more than a decade and is the son of another officer.
