DOWNINGTOWN >> The Downingtown Borough Council members adopted the $11.9 million budget for 2019 without a tax increase.

The $11,900,026 budget was adopted unanimously Wednesday with two council members absent. The budget had been discussed last month during council’s meeting, with all seven council members present. At that time, council President Anthony “Chip”

Gazzerro thanked the administrators for their efforts and he thanked the borough officials for their efforts to maintain the budget without a tax increase. No changes were made to the budget following that budget discussion.

Also during that meeting last month, Downingtown Mayor Josh Maxwell thanked the administrators for their efforts to maintain the budget without needing to increase taxes. This is the seventh consecutive year without a tax increase, set at 7.65 mills. A mill is equal to $1 for each $1,000 of assessed property value.

The budget includes funds from parking costs for the Green Street crosswalk, a project being led by Maxwell after senior citizens asked him for help. Maxwell helped initiate the project to make its safer for the seniors to cross the street near the Kardon Park entrance. The council members noted that pedestrians typically jaywalk in that area and this will make it safer for everyone to have a crosswalk.
