Pastor Gene Shirey went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Gene was married to Darlene (Radcliffe) Shirey and was predecease­d by his first wife Jeanette Shirey of 59 years in 2012.

Born on June 17, 1933 in Philadelph­ia, Pa he was the son of the late James E. Shirey and Emma M. Jones Shirey.

Gene was a graduate of Northeast High School and Philadelph­ia College of the Bible. He served his country in the US Naval Reserves as a Submariner for 8 years. He was the Pastor for Vincent Baptist Church of Chester Springs for 24 years before retiring in 2001 to care for his first wife. After retirement he served initially as Interim Pastor at Twin Valley Bible Chapel where he became a member and continued to teach, sing in the choir, serve as an Elder and preach as needed. Earlier in his career he also served as the pastor for other churches: Laurel Road Community Church, Lindenwold, Nj and Calvary Baptist Church, Carneys Point, Nj and he also served at City Gate Mission, Coatesvill­e, Pa. He loved serving the Lord in many ways and valued his time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Darlene, he is survived by a daughter Linda Hobbs, son Robert Shirey, daughter Lois Cartledge, step children Robert Radcliffe, Mark Radcliffe, James Radcliffe, 8 grandchild­ren, 8 step grandchild­ren, 14 great grandchild­ren, and a sister Gail Tyner of Nc.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday December 20, 2018 at 11:00 am at Twin Valley Bible Chapel, Narvon, Pa. Interment will be private for the family.
