Host Westtown captures its Invitation­al crown

The Westtown School girls’ basketball team captured the Westtown Invitation­al championsh­ip Saturday, defeating The Masters School, 60-41, in the title game Saturday. The Moose held a 14-11 lead after one quarter, then outscored Masters 19-7 in the second period. JoJo Lacey and Halle Brown each scored 17 points for Westtown (7-1).

The host Hurricanes fell behind 2718 at halftime, rallied in the second half, but fell just short in this AACA matchup. Villa’a leading scorers were Maddy Ryan (20 points) and Abby Walheim (16 points).

T.C. WILLIAMS (VA.) 49, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 34 »

The Warriors (3-1) suffered their first defeat of the season, despite 15 rebounds and 11 points from Grace Ferguson and nine points from Erin Thompson.

CONESTOGA 30, PENN WOOD 26 »

The Pioneers were led by productive efforts from Katharine Gay (12 points, four rebounds) and Emily Lortz (nine points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals). Conestoga trailed at halftime 14-

points.

GARNET VALLEY 61, WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 50 »

The Golden Knights led at halftime, 27-22, but host Garnet Valley rallied for 20 points in the final period. Dakiya Daneils led Rustin with 18 points.

UNIONVILLE 58, UPPER MERION 20 »

The Indians rolled past host Upper Merion, getting scoring from 12 different players. Erin Towler led the Unionville scorers with 12 points.

METHACTON 50, GREAT VALLEY 33 »

The visiting Patriots got nine points from Emma DeRobertis, and seven points each from Mia DeRobertis and Tessa Liberatosc­ioli.

OWEN J. ROBERTS 60, OXFORD 34 »

The Hornets (2-1) struggled to find their flow thanks to OJR’s high pressure defense and fast paced offense. Oxford was led by Cristina Fernandez with 19.

GREAT VALLEY 51, GLEN MILLS 43 » The host Patriots

trailed 37-31 after three periods, but exploded for 20 points in the fourth quarter, with Jake Prevost getting 10 of them. Prevost finished with 20 points, and teammates Josh Stehle and Will Fredrick each tallied 11 points.

COATESVILL­E 57, BENSALEM 35 »

The host Raiders were led by 27 points from Jhami Brickus. Dapree Bryant and Ousman Kamara each scored nine points for Coatesvill­e.

LOWER MORELAND 56, CHURCH FARM 41 »

Church Farm got 12 points from Nj Mahama, nine points from Max Scott and a couple of three-point field goals from Jimmy McEvoy, but fell to Lower Moreland in this Bicentenni­al League matchup.

WEST CHESTER EAST 72, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 41 »

The Vikings were led by Christophe­r Anderson (16 points) and Andrew Carr (13 points) in this victory at William J. Winters Gymnasium.

AVON GROVE 53, KENNETT 47»

The host Red Devils trailed after three periods 36-29, but came back to outscore the Blue Demons 24-11 in the fourth period.

Avon Grove was led by Ayden Violette (18 points), Dan Greenjak (17 points) and Reece Ziegler (nine points). For Kennett, Mitch Kosara scored 17 points and Buzz Hertz tallied 11.

The Moose were led by Jalen Gaffney (17 points), TJ Berger (17 points) and Noah Collier (14 points).

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 2ND AT MEISTER INVITATION­AL

» Downingtow­n East finished second at the Kurt Meister Invitation­al at Delaware Valley University, 2.5 points behind champion Bangor. The Cougars had four individual champions - Keanu Manuel (106 pounds), Lukas Richie (138), Matt Romanelli (182) and Zach Sharaf (285). Jett Lucas-Murphy finished second at 145, and Kyle Mittelstad­t (132) and Spencer Uggla (170) placed third.

D-WEST’S HALE 1ST AT PENN MANOR »

Downingtow­n West placed sixth out of 26 teams at the Penn Manor Comet classic this weekend, led by Max Hale, who finished first at 182 pounds. Four other Whippets placed in the top eight - Chase Mielnik (second, 195), Dom Findora (third, 106), Pat Cusack (seventh, 220) and Kane Hayford (eight, 145).

Three Unionville wrestlers placed in the top six in the Penn Manor tourney at their respective weight classes. Tyler Mousaw placed third with a pin in the second period of the third-place match. Jacob Lehman pinned his way into the semifinals and finished fourth. Dominic Chaclas avenged an early-round loss to Bryan Diaz to beat him in the fifth place match 3-1.

COATESVILL­E PLACES AT

DVGTCA MEET » The Red Raiders had a couple of high finishes at the DVGTCA 1 Meet at Lehigh University Saturday. In the high jump, Donovan Hart placed third (6-2) and qualified for the Meet of Champions. Coatesvill­e’s 4x800 relay of Micah Kranzel, Josh Campagna, Jahmir Carter and Jesus Hernandez finished fourth (8:47.37).
