Edward A. Barrow of Downingtown
Edward A. Barrow, 90 of Downingtown, PA, peacefully passed on January 4, 2019 with his beloved wife of 67 years at his side.
Born in Bronx, NY – son of the late Albert Barrow and Ruth Schmidt Barrow, and raised in New Hyde Park, Long Island. He graduated from Sewanhaka High School, attended Julliard, served in the US Army -1946-1948, attained Bachelor and Master degrees from University of Rochester, Eastman School of Music and Doctorate of Music Composition from West Virginia University.
Dr. Barrow came to West Chester State Teachers’ College (WCU) in 1956 as Associate Professor of Music, then Professor, Chair of Instrumental Dept. and prior to his retirement in 1994 Interim Dean of the School of Music.
Edward arranged, composed and published music for children, adult and handbell church choirs. His was one of five original families who founded Christ Memorial Lutheran Church in Malvern. He served as Trustee, Elder and for 55 years, served as the Choir and Handbell Director. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Donald Barrow and granddaughter, Michele Lesher (nee Blundin). He is survived by his wife, Naomi Barrow (nee Degen), daughters: Ruth Blundin (Brent), Althea Kotroba (Steven) and Janet Reynolds (Scott). Also is survived by 6 grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren and 4 greatgreat grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11AM (calling at 10:00 AM) at Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, 89 Line Road, Malvern, PA 19355.
