Berks Countybased Tower Health, which owns six hospitals in the region in Chester, Montgomery and Berks counties and Philadelphia, recently presented donations to several area food banks on behalf of the hospitals.

The donations to the Share Food Program of King of Prussia; the Chester County Food bank; and the Greater Berks Food Bank were presented in December, following a Tower Health social media wellness campaign designed to promote the benefits of healthy eating, as well as raise money for local food banks.

The campaign — TowerGimmeFive — encouraged individuals to eat more fruits and vegetables. To participate, individuals had to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day for five days, then post about it on social media using the hashtag TowerGimmeFive.

The campaign generated more than 1 million impressions on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, according to Tower Health.

The three-month campaign, which ran from Aug. 1 to Oct. 31, also included educational information and events, cooking classes and grocery store gift card giveaways.

Clint Matthews, president and CEO, Tower Health and Bill Jennings, president and CEO, Reading Hospital, made the first donation Dec. 12, presenting a $5,000 check to the Greater Berks Food Bank.

On Dec. 17, Jeff Hunt, president & CEO, Brandywine Hospital; Claire Mooney, interim president & CEO, Jennersville Hospital; and Michael Kelly, senior director of operations, Phoenixville Hospital presented a $5,000 check to the Chester County Food Bank.

John Cacciamani, MD, president & CEO, Chestnut Hill Hospital and Rich Newell, president & CEO, Pottstown Hospital presented a $5,000 check Dec. 19 to Share Food Program, King of Prussia.

Tower Health consists of Brandywine Hospital in Caln Township; Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia; Jennersville Hospital in Penn Township in southern Chester County; Phoenixville Hospital in Phoenixville; Pottstown Hospital in Pottstown; and Reading Hospital in West Reading.
