Kennett swims past archrival Unionville

The Kennett 200 medley relay of Liam Simmons, Nathan Ober, Ryan Barish and Ronan Gorman broke a school record with a time of 1:39.97, qualifying for the District 1 Championsh­ips, and helping the Blue Demons boys swim team to a historic win over their crosstown rival Unionville, 94-76, on Monday.

The Demons won the next four events, thanks to Barish (200 free), Ober (200 IM), Gorman (50 free) and Barish again (100 fly). Unionville hung around, but Kennett took control with a top-three sweep in the 100 free, with Simmons (49.91), Gorman (53.35) and Tyler Tebo (54.49). Unionville’s Thomas Smiddy won the 500 freestyle (5:14.20), and the Indians won the 200 free relay with Taylor Bohn, Connor Long, Jack Murray and Max Braithwait­e (1:37.58).

Kennett took back control when Liam Simmons won the 100 backstroke (55.40) and Ober won the 100 breaststro­ke (1:00.76). The Demons sealed things in the 400 free relay, as Gorman, Barish, Ober and Simmons took first (3:26.91).

Boys Basketball

COATESVILL­E 66, NORRISTOWN 64 >> Jhamir Brickus scored 38 points and had a crucial steal with seven seconds left as the Red Raiders beat Norristown in the Scholastic Play by Play Classic. LA SALLE 55, DEVON PREP 24 >> Scion Dorsey scored eight points and James Jablonski had five points for Devon Prep in the Philadelph­ia Catholic League loss at home.

Women’s Basketball

LINCOLN 80, SHAW 61 >> Jamari Tillman (18 points) and Alisia Machado (15 points) recorded careerhigh­s and Kwanza Murray added 21 points as the Lions had an explosive second half to defeat Shaw in Raleigh, N.C.

Trailing 34-33 at the half, Lincoln opened the third quarter with a 13-2 run and took a 5745 lead after three quarters. The Lions added to their lead in the fourth quarter leading by as many as 24 points down the stretch.

Men’s Basketball

SHAW 87, LINCOLN 70 >> The Lions (11-7, 4-3 CIAA) dropped their third consecutiv­e road game, this time in CIAA play in North Carolina. Deaquan Williams led the lions with 16 points while Cameron Campbell and Zahrion Blue had 11 points apiece. Tamir Green dished out eight assists.
