Oxford boys bounce back in fourth to nip Great Valley

The Oxford boys’ basketball team edged Great Valley, 36-35, Tuesday, bouncing back from a 32-26 deficit at the end of the third quarter. The Hornets, who limited the visiting Patriots to three points in the final period, got 11 points from Luke Campbell and nine points from Brock Ruddy. For Great Valley, Jake Prevost and Josh Stehle each scored 10 points. MALVERN PREP 86, EPISCOPAL ACADEMY 49 » The Friars, who outscored EA 27-11 in the second quarter, were led by Deuce Turner (26 points, including a trio of three-point field goals) and TyGee Leach (14 points). Malvern Prep shot 20-for-28 from the free throw line. DEVON PREP 55, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 45» The Host Tide were led by Nick Crowe (15 points) and Scion Dorsey (13 points). Fred Rullo, Eamon Walsh and Mike Ferry each scored seven points for Devon Prep. Sion Allen led Collgium scoring with 13 points. SUN VALLEY 55, UNIONVILLE 51 » The Indians, who were outscored 13-6 in the first quarter, got 16 points from Bo Furey-Bastian. Unionville’s Logan Shanahan hit four treys and finished with 14 points, and teammate Drew Lenkaitis chipped in with 14 points. COATESVILL­E 58, AVON GROVE 56 » The Raiders edged the Red Devils, with a huge assist from Jhamir Brickus, who tallied 27 points (including four treys) in the razor-thin victory. For Avon Grove, the leading scorers were Dan Greenjak (22 points), Matt Gallagher (17 points) and Reese Ziegler (eight points). WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 63, KENNETT 51 » The visiting Golden Knights were led by IV Pettit (20 points), Jake Nelson (12 points) and Jacob Barksdale (nine points). For Kennett, Jack Mullen scored 16 points. BISHOP SHANAHAN 71, WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 40 » The Eagles got 23 points from Phil Chenard and 19 from Joe O’Malley. For Henderson, Luke Weirman scored 14 points. CONESTOGA 51, PENNCREST 47 » The victorious Pioneers got 14 points from Milton Robinson and 12 points from Zach Lezanic in this Central League matchup. WESTTOWN SCHOOL 66, GEORGE SCHOOL 54 » The Moose (19-4) got out to a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, and were led by TJ Berger, who scored 20 points in this Friends Schools League contest, and Jalen Gaffney (17 points).

VILLA MARIA ACADEMY 47, GWYNEDD MERCY 32 » The Hurricanes (11-2, 6-1), leading 20-16 at halftime, outscored Gwynedd Mercy 11-2 in the third quarter to pull away for the victory. Abby Walheim scored 15 points for the winners, and six Hurricanes combined for the other 32 points. UNIONVILLE 53, SUN VALLEY 30 » A dozen Indians entered the scoring column for the winners, led by Lyndsey Barrett, who had eight points. Unionville held a 45-17 lead after three quarters. WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 28, BISHOP SHANAHAN 27 » The Warriors (102) were led by Molly Manion (nine points, four rebounds) and Grace Ferguson (eight points, 12 rebounds). Shanahan got eight second-quarter points from Sammie McCarter. GREAT VALLEY 51, OXFORD 35 » The Patriots held the Hornets scoreless in the first quarter, getting out to a 15-0 lead. Tessa Liberatosc­ioli led Great Valley with 15 points for the contest, while teammate Katie Peduto chipped in with 10. For Oxford, Cristina Fernandez and Anna Hampshire each scored 10 points. PENNCREST 37, CONESTOGA 25 » For the Pioneers, Annie Nikolic scored eight points, and teammate Emily Lortz chipped in with seven. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 46, DOWNINGTOW­N WEST 30 » The Couagrs bolted out to a 34-14 halftime lead, were led by Bella Smuda (20 points) and Caroline Brennan (13 points). Ketlee Staz scored 11 points for the Whippets.

DOWNINGTOW­N EAST 110, COATESVILL­E 63» The Cougars were led by multiple individual event winners Vincent Ye (200 free, 1:53.66; 500 free, 5:16.38) and Ben Doyle (200 IM, 2:05.94; 100 free, 49.33). Other East first-place finishers in individual events were Matthew Wan (100 fly, 56.24) and Jack Hackett (diving, 159.80). For Coatesvill­e (3-4, 1-3), individual event winners were Ethan Moore (50 free, 22.74) and Jacob Vannoy (100 back, 1:00.52; 1:05.47). MALVERN PREP 106.5, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY 78.5 » The Friars (6-1-1, 2-01) swept the relays and got individual wins from Matt Magness (200IM, 500 free), Ryan Maher (50 free), Nick Harris (1m diving), Jack Cassidy (100 back) and Ryan Durkan (100 breast). CONESTOGA 117, GARNET VALLEY 66 » Conestoga’s Brendan Burns finished first in the 200 free (1:48.47) and the 100 back (54.58), while teammate Raymond Welgosh finished first in the 200 IM (2:14.46) and 100 breast (1:11.14).
