Magrone, Rustin top Harriton at WCU
Coatesville 4x400 relay runs to win in New York
Becca Magrone scored 11 points and Julie DiCampli added nine as West Chester Rustin beat Harriton, 46-30, at the West Chester University Showcase. Symone Costin added eight points and Grace Plona scored seven for the Golden Knights in the win.
Springfield 46, W.C. Henderson 37 >> Grace Ferguson had 11 points and eight rebounds while Brittany Forcine had eight points for Henderson in the losing effort at the West Chester University Showcase.
Girls Indoor Track & Field
OCEAN BREEZE INVITATIONAL >> Coatesville’s 4x400 relay of Sammie Miller, Patty Rokins, Arianna Eberly and Porsha Miles clocked a time of 3:54.86 to win the event at the Ocean Breeze Invitational in New York. That time was the second best this year in Pennsylvania and 10th best nationally. Miller placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:17.21, while in the 200 trials, Eberly ran 24.83 and Miles ran 25.27, good enough for second and sixth in the trials. The duo bypassed the finals to concentrate on the relay. Morgan Ernst tied for fifth in the high jump.
Women’s Gymastics
WEST CHESTER 191.85, SPRINGFIELD (MASS.) 186.5 >> WCU claimed the top four spots in all four events en route to a win on the road at Springfield.
West Chester (4-1) came out victorious in its second straight dual meet with a strong performance wire to wire. The Golden Rams particularly shined on the balance beam.
“We had a really good day,” West Chester head coach Barb Cordova said. “We finished strong on the beam. We really hit it out of the park.”
Downingtown native Jessica Meakim won a pair of events, taking first place in both the vault and the floor exercise. Meakim scored a 9.725 on the vault and a 9.825 on the floor to pace the Golden Rams in those events. She also finished third on the bars with a 9.55.
Sarah Boyd won the beam with a score of 9.75 while also tying for fourth place on the floor with a 9.625. Melanie Wojewoda tied teammate Jordan Miranda for second place on the beam each with a 9.7. Yoli Nodarse was fourth with a 9.675, and Cassie Hageman was fifth with a 9.625.
West Chester scored a 48.45 on the beam while adding a 48.2 on the floor exercise to cruise to the win.
Freshman Rose Fanara placed second behind Meakim on the floor exercise with a score of 9.7. She was just ahead of classmate Brashlyn Johnson, who scored a 9.65, placing just ahead of Boyd.
Johnson was runner-up to Meakim on the vault with a 9.65 as well. Lyndsey Mathis posted a 9.55 to take third. Kelley Lubking tied for fourth with a 9.525.
Natalie Onderko and Myranda Marshall tied for the top spot on the uneven bars with a 9.65. Meakim was third with her 9.55, as previously mentioned, while Miranda was fourth with a 9.525.
