Oxford to break ground for Multimodal Transportation Center
The Borough of Oxford will break ground for the highly anticipated Multimodal Transportation Center. It takes place Feb. 8 at t 11 a.m. at Octoraro Alley and Second Street.
On hand will be Sen. Andrew E. Dinnman, Rep. John Lawrence; Michelle Kichline, Chester County Commissioner, Chair; Kathi Cozzone, Chester County Commissioner Vice-Chair; Terence Farrell, Chester County Commissioner; Susan Lombardi, Oxford Borough Council President; Ryan Emerson, Director, PA Department of Community and Economic Development; Tim Phelps, Executive Director of Transportation Management Association of Chester County; and Brian Wenzka, Director, Oxford Mainstreet Inc.
The Multimodal Transportation Center is intended to provide needed parking and public transportation infrastructure to support revitalization efforts in the downtown and in anticipation of growth in greater Oxford.
The facility will be a four-level parking structure, with integrated bus services, and approximately 2,700 SF of interior space that will become the new Borough Hall.
“More parking and improved transportation amenities are needed to continue economic growth in the borough,” said Sue Lombardi, Oxford Borough Council President. “As we continue to work for the betterment of Oxford, this groundbreaking ceremony affords us a unique opportunity to bring attention to the revitalization of the Borough and to spotlight all that the downtown has to offer to everyone who lives and works in the region.”
Oxford officials worked closely with state and county officials throughout the project’s planning process. Approximately $3.6M in state and county grants were awarded to the Borough to support the facility’s construction.
“Senator Dinniman, Representative Lawrence and the Chester County Commissioners have been steadfast champions of the revitalization of downtown Oxford.” said Brian Hoover, borough manager. “We reach this important milestone in large part because of their support and due to the funding they secured through PennDOT, the state Department of Community and Economic Development and the Chester County Department of Community and Economic Development.”
The Oxford Borough Multimodal Transportation Center is an activity of and funded by Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Commonwealth Financing Authority, County of Chester: Community Revitalization Program, Borough of Oxford and an anonymous donor.
