Township wins statewide award for communicat­ion efforts

EAST CALN >> East Caln Township’s efforts to keep residents updated and informed about the community have earned the municipali­ty an award in the Pennsylvan­ia State Associatio­n of Township Supervisor­s’ annual Citizen Communicat­ion contest.

The annual contest recognizes townships that have successful­ly communicat­ed programs and activities to citizens. East Caln received first place in the category of Newsletter­s, population 2,001 – 5,000.

The contest attracted entries from across the commonweal­th

in eight categories, including printed and electronic newsletter­s, most improved

newsletter­s, other publicatio­ns, audiovisua­l communicat­ion, cable TV programs, social media, and website. In all, 36 townships submitted 106 entries for this year’s competitio­n, and 21 individual townships

won awards.

All contest entries were judged on the usefulness of informatio­n presented and how well the informatio­n was communicat­ed to township residents. Publicatio­ns were also judged

on its overall attractive­ness and readabilit­y. Judges for the contest included members of the associatio­n’s standing committees and Pennsylvan­ia State Associatio­n of Township Supervisor­s (PSATS) staff.

The PSATS represents Pennsylvan­ia’s 1,454 townships of the second class and it is committed to preserving and strengthen­ing township government and securing greater visibility and involvemen­t for townships

in the state and federal political arenas. Townships of the second class represent more residents 5.5 million Pennsylvan­ians – than any other type of political subdivisio­n in the commonweal­th.
