Councilor resigns, vacancy created
DOWNINGTOWN >> Downingtown Borough Council will have 30 days to fill a vacancy made by Democrat Patricia McGlone.
Downingtown Borough Council members accepted her resignation at Wednesday’s council meeting. McGlone, who recently retired, is moving out of Downingtown.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the residents of Downingtown as a Council member,” McGlone stated in her resignation letter.
Downingtown Borough Manager Steve Sullins informed council that because it is an election year, they can work with Voter Services which can notify the Democratic and Republican par
ties to help them find a candidate to fill the unexpired term. The candidate has to be a Downingtown Borough resident.
McGlone recently retired after serving 15 years as the director of public information and development for Downingtown Area School District.
McGlone ran for council during the 2013 election and was successfully elected to serve a term in 2014 and again in 2018 after winning her re-election in 2017. She ran for office because she said she wanted to give back to the growing community.
In a prior interview with
the Daily Local News, she explained she came to Downingtown Borough Council with 10 years of experience of distributing information in a cost effective way, such as writing an enewsletter. She has assisted the borough by writing enewsletter about news and upcoming events. She has gained experience by serving on the Planning Commission in another town in the Downingtown area prior to moving to the borough. During her time on council, she had served as the council liaison for the Planning Commission and the Park and Rec Commission.
The council members announced to the public to consider the position and informing someone who may be interested. Council president Anthony ‘Chip’ Gazzerro jokingly warned them to be careful about their decision to run for office to fill the vacancy because this is the same way he began his journey with council, more than a decade ago.
